**SOLAS VI/2 REQUIRED VGM**
Effective July 1st 2016, Transport Canada in conjunction with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) will be adopting the amendments
to the SOLAS VI/2 (Safety of Life at Sea) regulation which states:
-New amendments require the shipper of a packed container to provide, in a signed shipping document, the container’s verified gross mass (VGM)
-The shipper must determine VGM using one of two methods:
Method 1: When a container is packed and sealed, the shipper may weigh, or have arranged that a third party weigh it
Method 2: The shipper or, a third party arranged by shipper; may weigh total of all cargo, dunnage, securing material + addition of container tare weight.
*5% variation in VGM of loaded container is applied as a threshold for compliance and enforcement purposes but no more than 500 kgs. (This is to allow for blocking, bracing and other minor discrepancies)
**ALL SCALES WILL BE CERTIFIED**
